The PhotographerI was born and raised in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia along the Evangeline Trail and Bay of Fundy. I have had the opportunity to live in several other provinces including Nunavut, Manitoba and Quebec. I love to travel and having lived in the North, I was able to experience the beautiful Northern Lights, something that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
Growing up with animals taught responsibility and compassion. I grew up in the world of horse showing and am a registered rabbit breeder with the American Rabbit Breeders Association. I owned a beautiful German Shepherd who passed away in March, and a barn full of rabbits. I love to work with all animals, big or small, furry or slimy, domestic or livestock. I wouldn't be where I am today without animals in my life. A picture can speak a thousand words, which is why I love to photograph animals and bring out emotion and personality in their images. I am a quiet introvert, but that doesn't stop me from photographing everything and anything. I love being behind the camera where I can relax and throw my worries away. Photography is a way for me to express myself and I never pass up an opportunity to use my camera. I have a passion for photography and work to improve with every image; there's always something to learn. I enjoy mainly photographing Pet & Equine Portraits and Landscapes or Nature, but am always willing to photograph human portraits or still-life and product advertising. I am currently studying at Dalhousie University for a Bachelor of Science Agriculture, majoring in Animal Science. |
Brackson PhotographyOwned and operated by Mikahla. I chose the name Brackson for several reasons. Firstly, it is unique and has a personal meaning. Secondly, I wanted something that incorporated my gorgeous dog Bree and a very beloved rabbit that passed away, Jackson. Together, their names form Brackson, something special and unique to me.
I started photography around 2009 and am mainly self taught. I have done classes and workshops in school and through 4H, but spent time studying other photographers and my camera manual for most of my knowledge. Having art run in my family, I grew up with knowledge on compositions and design elements, like texture and lines. My formal training was completed at the New York Institute of Photography with a Certificate in Professional Photography. I have won several awards on ViewBug and Pixoto, and in local exhibitions and had the pleasure of having an image as a finalist for the National Geographic's 2017 Landscape Calendar. I was the professional photographer for the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Equestrian team 2018-2019. I am the photography project leader for the Western Kings 4H Club.
